Sandbox Earth is dedicated to my Dad, as this story was ultimately his idea when we first talked about it years and years ago. The idea has lived in my head ever since we talked about it, and this is the first time I have put it to paper so it can live in your head too. Thank you, Dad!

Wow, this is great. The writing style here reminds me ever so slightly of Scott Card’s Ender series, though I’m not sure exactly why.
I came to this series without reading the series for which it is a prequel, but was immediately caught up in the story. The framework - the interviews - is very clever, and works well. And the underlying premise - that earthlings are beneath the notice of the planet's first extraterrestrial visitors - is both challenging and thought provoking. Thanks so much for sharing this. I hope it gets a wide readership.
