For Macabre Monday last week I posted about a Mole of Moles, and
and took it too (and hilariously) far.Given that today is the big day, Halloween, itself—let’s explore the emergence of the Eldritch Mole.

Crunch: Write about the Eldritch Mole
The cultists gathered in the abandoned warehouse.
“It’s time!” the leader said, “Assume your positions.”
There were fifteen cultists present, and they arranged themselves in a roughly circular shape, as rehearsed. They quietly chanted dig…dig….dig… while the leader began his invocation.
From the Deep: sleeper, awaken!
The hour has come, be not mistaken
A strange red glow formed a thin circle on the ground amid the cultists.
Deeper than the earths Foundation
come forth now and see what we have taken
Lines began to trace along the ground—the incantation was working.
Let it be above, as it is below!
come shake the earth and overthrow!
The lines formed a many-pointed star, and in the center, reality turned…fuzzy. Like a hole was opening…
Let surface dwellers hide in holes
I summon forth THE ELDRITCH MOLE!
The hole in the center grew, and giant tentacles emerged—radiating fearsome energy, some of the cultists were shocked into silence.
“What is it?” one whispered to another.
The beast emerged, and the tentacles were part of a giant star-nosed eldritch mole that emerged, it’s massive claws digging at the floor of the warehouse. As it crawled out, it became clear that the cultists were in danger as the warehouse could not contain such a massive beast. They scampered out of the warehouse just in time, as the building collapsed around the giant mole.
Then, the mole sniffed the air, and with its massive paws it began digging underneath the warehouse.
“What do we do?”
“Wait.”

YES!!!
I've got to say, what I've always found the most funny is the combination of unusual things, weird stuff, you know (not to plug myself, but as an example, the Malpracticycle used by the Malevolent Med-Student, one of my characters. That line made me laugh). And this, the Eldritch Mole, this was just that; it was incongruously terrifying and hilarious.
I need to read more Lovecraft: I've only read the Call of Cthulhu, and only once full through I think.
