For some reason this reminds me of the ram caught in the thickets that would take the place of Isaac in Abraham's sacrifice. The deer in the ruins serving as the blessing. Not that it was necessarily taking the place.
Unless..... it takes the place of the "boy" who ought not return.... Interesting.....
Good catch, I definitely had Isaac and Abraham vibes while I was writing this. If you squint there's a bit of symbolism about making the kill in the center of the ruined Church, perhaps on what some might consider an altar.
But in 250 words, it was hard to pack too much in!
I have gone camping. My husband and I love doing it, though it's been a while since we've gone. What makes a Church beautiful is that it shows that it was clearly built to glorify God and not to satisfy a fad or agenda. My favorite brunch spot is a restaurant called Eggs Up. I love their eggs benedict.
Ive got catholic friends around therabouts, i wonder if theyve heard of that place. Would be even more wild if they know you. You wouldnt happen to know the Great Hearts Academies would you?
Negative on Parish but he knows people who go there and intends to visit eventually--I have instructed him to tell you “Scoot says hi” if you ever cross paths 😂
I know you didn't mean it like this, but my mind immediately went to that scene from "The Godfather 2" where Frankie Five Angels gets murdered. "Michael Corleone says hello." Anyways, I'll be on the lookout.
I like this prompt, I've been inspired to write something myself...
Yesss! Excellent, let me know when you do!
I will!
Finally wrote it! https://open.substack.com/pub/songsofsarenthe/p/life-amongst-the-ruins?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1mv73n

1. Yes, I have. I wrote an account of the first camping trip with my family here: https://walthercantu.substack.com/p/go-camping-they-said-itll-be-fun
2. I think reverence makes a Church beautiful, second only to the sacrifice of the Mass being offered in it.
3. Perk Eatery in Scottsdale, AZ. My go to is their chorizo breakfast burrito with obscene amounts of tomatillo salsa. 10/10 will eat there again.

It's smaller after all. I do know the Great Hearts Academies, and I think some fellow parishioners are/have been teachers there.
Whats your parish? One of my three non-hambone BFFs teaches there!
St. Joan of Arc
No idea what my friends parish is but inquiring now! Small world!

You can email me also if this is too personal/stalkerish 😂
You're telling this to the guy that writes personal essays.
