1. I can neither confirm nor deny. (In truth, yes: during law school, I was trying to print off something and the law school class printer went on the fritz. That was... not a good day).

2. Touch choice; I really like Pacific Rim, also Godzilla (the newer one with Bryan Cranston); I would love to say Battleship but I don't think it really qualifies. The Marvel special Werewolf by Night was a great one, though. I really enjoyed that.

3. Cheez-Its. Can't beat Cheez-Its.

Man Pacific Rim pleases my lizard brain so much. Who can ask for anything better than giant robots punching giant monsters? Perfect, no notes. I saw the first of the new Godzilla movies and I am afraid to watch the rest!

Cheez-its are a trigger food for me, I don't buy them anymore because they barely make it home from the grocery store. Great pick!

I confess the first one I saw in the theatres and I was motion-sick during part of it (this was before Covid and the whole brain tumor thing) but I tell you what, when he did the nuclear fire breath, that was so cool).

Anyway: totally with you on Pacific Rim. That's why I like Battleship, honestly. Navy vs. aliens. That's all you need! Same with PR: it's robots vs. kaiju. Boom! There you go!

I loved it. It was very spooky. I think keeping the creature a mystery was a good move. The fear of uncertainty surrounding it is very powerful.

I just want to add that seeing you challenge yourself really inspires me. It's really brave to work in an area that you're less familiar with and put out work that you're unsure of. I think what you're doing is amazing.

I love the idea of a creature stealing your data. A professor of mine used to call these “cyber gremlins,” any time an email failed to send. 😂

2. Does Jurassic Park count?

3. Doritos followed by chocolate.

Jurassic Park definitely counts, it was my first reaction when I wrote the question but then I remembered Cloverfield. Doritos + Chocolate sounds fantastic!

Have you ever snuck in an assignment or submission too close to the deadline?

In my 2nd year of university I was running a week of evening talks and discussions with audiences up to 400. Hosting, going to dinners, chairing discussions, a very tiring time with lectures and seminars during the day. I had an essay in for the Thursday, only I didn't know this until the Wednesday evening as I'd gotten the dates mixed up. After the Wednesday evening talk I made it home around 1AM and sat down to read a dozen papers and some book chapters on rituals and managed to cobble together an essay by 7AM when the building opened and I could sneak it into the hand in box. Luckily my printer worked, for once. I received a very poor mark.

What’s your favorite creature-feature movie?

I have to go with The Thing. Though I admit I'm not that versed in the genre.

What’s your go-to midnight snack?

It used to be insant noodles and/or gyoza but now I rarely snack.

The suspense and build up was great and the final line was perfection. The description of what you saw was a bit muddled and murky for me.
