Overthrown

Prompt by: Gibberish

FFF - Sun-Ripe

Write about a new leader

sun-ripened ruins

“my story is over”

A character who is under arrest

“Ah, here are the police now. I am sure they will get to the bottom of this,” heavily intoned our Government representative. They had been asked to take a look at the sun ripened ruins that a secret foreign country had just come across. Why the police were there they had no idea.

“Monsieur,” the Gendarme said, pointing at Graham, the Government representative. “You will come with us. You are under arrest for accepting bribes.”

“No,” he protested as they dragged him away. “You've got the wrong man.”

Sally looked over at Benjamin who appeared to be hiding his eyes under his hat. “Well that was interesting,” she said.

“What is more interesting is that he had the keys to the Volvo so we are stuck here.” Benjamin observed as the Police car motored away.

Sally looked up at the sun. “Since we are here we should take a look at the ruins.”

Benjamin nodded. “Maybe there is some shade there. This sun is hot.”

They picked up their equipment and walked towards the ruins. About halfway to the ruins they heard a car honking wildly. They stopped to watch as an ancient Renault pulled up. The driver hopped out and hurried over to them.

“You must come with me quickly,” said the Driver. “Our Government has been overthrown. Our new leader has decreed these ruins to be off limits. You are in danger!” They hurried to the car and stepped in.

“Where will you take us?” inquired Sally.

“To the safest place in the world,” he replied, “Your Canadian Embassy. I hope we make it.”
