Given Time
Louis sat back in his chair, the look of smug satisfaction reigning supreme on his face. “Have you considered the fact that your losing streak is simply the will of God stepping out and asserting its rightful place in the world?”
Evan was not taken aback by this comment from Louis. He had heard it many times before.
“Wouldn’t you know it?” whispered the youthful opponent through the haze of cigarette smoke Louis was producing from his chimney like mouth. “You invoke the will of God like it is some God given right. Your skills may be superior,” he started, “for now,” he added slyly, ”but given time and energy someone always will grow and become better. If you weren’t useful I would be long gone.”
Louis smiled a satisfying smile. “I think you are close to taking on the chess world. You are almost ready,” he stated, his steely eyes never leaving Evan's face as he moved his pawn to d4.
“Classic moves only last so long. Time to liven things up,” Evan reflected as his mind flipped through all the classic games he had studied to find exactly the move that would be advanced, setting up a satisfying ending. "Louis is right," Evan thought. "It may be time to move on," as his win came into focus.
Oh, nice. This is going to be a fun one!
