Dear Mary,
With peace now well established in Maristo, Jason was sent on an extended leave as a reward for his diligent service. He is visiting with us now, and we will all three of us come visit you very soon.
These weeks of marriage have been an uncommon bliss. I never knew I could be so happy. I never knew that humans were capable of being this kind to each other. Of course—there’s a little more work to be done, the Tark estate is not sustained on leisure. But I am finding the work ennobling, and the recreation in the woods, with my darling wife—not what I expected hermitage to be, but exactly what I wanted. To share a little slice of earth with someone upon whom I can dote and care.
My life feels fulfilled in both meaning and purpose. I no longer wonder about my place in it. Our parents—they do what they wish. Father has not spoken to me in months. Mother occasionally satisfies herself that I do not despise her. Though, I’ve invited them to the Tark estate on multiple occasions and there never seems to be time for them to come.
I don’t know what will come of the Countyship, and frankly I do not care. I feel like I have also gained the world by seceding from it. Not in fact, but in mind. I am free to live my own life, to make my own choices, and I am unburdened by pretenses of authority which I neither want nor need. There is plenty here on these few paternal acres to keep me busy for the rest of my days, and with Catherine I am pleased that my days will not be spent in solitude and isolation.
Mary—dearest Mary, my sister and my friend. The road will not be eternally smooth—at least the road itself feels fulfilling now. I am pleased to report I am happy. I almost forgot it was possible.
Love always, your brother,
-Armin
