Thank you very much, Michael! Dune is great, but someone once described it as two people standing in big empty rooms and pontificating. If you can stomach that, you'll enjoy it a lot!
it's a good idea and seeing you do it helped prod me in the direction of doing it myself, so if you give credit to anyone else, curious readers can follow the chain to the source haha!
Please do! I have been reading more fiction on substack lately so I was pleased to have things top of mind!
Lots happening! I worry with my updates that I'm providing too much unnecessary information to readers who just want the content they subscribed for, but seeing it from the other side I actually quite liked this. It's an opportunity to learn more about the man behind the moniker, understand your writing process, and stay up to date with any delays or other happenings. If people don't like it they can skip it, of course.
Also, for some reason I always like hearing about what people are reading. How are you finding the Three Body Problem?
It's amazing. Some of the cleverest Sci Fi I have read in a long, long time. I am mad that I interrupted my reading rhythm because I was sucked in! I know there's a TV adaptation in the works but I don't plan to watch it and I hope they do it justice. Hambone has said the second book is amazing and the third book can be skipped without any loss of fidelity.
Nice! I don't read or watch much Sci fi, but there are a few books and series I plan to get into at some point. I'm planning to read more fiction next year, so maybe I can include some Sci fi as part of that
Happy to share! There's a series I plan to read, actually, that to my knowledge is pretty obscure. Have you heard of David Zindell? A friend of mine (who died a few years ago) recommended his series 'A Requiem for Homo Sapiens', and I've read the standalone prequel, but not the series. Do you know it?
I have had it on my radar to report on that. No, though--didnt hit any of my targets (came really close to the subscriber goal though!), and in fairness i didnt do a lot of busking. September always seems to be a slow month! I dont know why i chose it, I guess the pun! Need a better marketing strategy, though I appreciate your help and support in that regard.
I’ve never read Lord of the Rings until I started this year! Earlier this year I read The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring before baby number two got here. I’m pretty excited to pick back up with The Two Towers.
But I really should get that review of Brave New World done before I read any more books.
It’s cool to see what you’re up to Scoot. Hope the move is going well.
The move is finished! Only real obstacle right now is my back--it's still not 100% but it's maybe 85% and i'm doing stretches to try and help. I'm basically at the point that I am going to ignore it and resume trying to move furniture around my apartment.
I've been meaning to reach out to you about potentially meeting up. if it's going to happen, October is the month, for reasons I can't fully explain yet. I'll shoot you an email approximately "soon"!
EAGERLY awaiting your Brave New World writeup! Thanks Derek!
Thanks for the shoutout and glad to hear you're enjoying the Civil War :)
I've had the Three Body Problem on my to read list for years but have yet to get round to it. I have at least 5 books to read before I can freely choose a book though so maybe next year.
Blood or Flood was brilliant and the 'reverse muaddib' idea has more to give. Looking forward to the Nameless serial!
I always tell myself I need to read two books before I buy one but it always works out the opposite. Thanks for this Redd! Your writing is an inspiration--one of these days I want to try my hand at something action packed and 'pulpy', so iron sharpens iron my friend!
Oh, nice! I haven't actually read Dune yet, although I've been meaning to, but I like your ideas, and definitely excited for the serial! Good luck!

I'm an attorney IRL, my friend; you just described my whole career. :D
Perfect you're gonna love it LOL!!
I would definitely love to read "Another Muadibb: Chronicles of the Lesser Star Wars"
Brown Dwarf Wars 3: Lost in Space
Jabba the Harkonen
You're Crossing Canons!!! LOLLLL
I can't take credit for the idea, I'm afraid. It does seem to be getting a positive reception, though.
Oh, and I like the added stuff about what you've been reading. I might have to steal that.

It seems like there's starting to be more fiction published here now. Maybe we won't always be the red-headed stepchild of Substack
Even if we aren't the biggest subgroup by number I am willing to say we rival the biggest in enthusiasm!
Small but mighty.
I look forward to your entry, Scoot!
Thank you Brian!

It’ll be worth it! Id love to hear your thoughts!

Just curious, what were the results of Subtember for you? Did you get many new subscribers?

Scoot! Do you follow Breanne Rogers' Many Meetings stack? She's doing a self-paced read-through of LOTR this year that you might be interested in!
I do not but i like the sound of that! Can you link me to a good entry point for that project or her stack??
I'll tag you in Notes! Please hold.
“Scoot why are you looking at your phone?”
“Im on hold!”
“Are you talking to someone?”
“No, im on hold!”
Hold over! Check your notes-notis!
Hey Gibberish,
What do you think about the AI systems training their systems with your writing? It's already started. Read about this important topic in my post https://boodsy.substack.com/p/the-ai-bots-are-coming-for-your-substack

Haha same. Shelves are bursting and need to get more.
That's amazing to hear my work is inspiring, not something I thought I'd think would happen. Thank you :)
Iron sharpens iron indeed!
