I am so invested in this story -- it makes me think of the Big Fantasy Books I read off my dad's shelf as a teen, "In The Hall of the Dragon King" and "A Wizard of Earthsea" and such. Loving the adventure!
I really like the whole thing you have going on with the books. In one sense they’re immensely powerful and useful, and yet you don’t overplay it. Even just little nuggets of info like Varus being able to rest in his book while being carried adds so much.
The magic of this place is so fascinating — such intriguing uses available. I’m wondering about the weight of books based on the things inside them currently, because if no such implication exists — well, that opens up a lot of options
