In Soviet Russia, Indiana finds YOU!

(I'm sorry, I can't resist a good In Soviet Russia joke ;) But yes, absolutely do that. I'm not even a drinking person and you should do that. :)

My Substack World Tour list is growing steadily!

Since Substack offers access to a ton of stock pictures to use, one of the things I keep on thinking of (but have yet to follow through on) is randomly picking one of said stock pictures and writing about it. Maybe a 100 word story or something.

You should definitely do that! Stock-photo fiction would be a great writing exercise, every little bit helps!

There’s a castle not too far from us that a guy built more or less by himself! We visited it a year or so ago. A super neat and wild experience.

You're not invisible here, friend! Thank you for reading and commenting!

Do you have like, photographic memory? Did you practice this skill or would you say it is a natural gift?

I was pretty much invisible when I was young, I made myself that way to stay out of the way of arguments and conflict.

Tea, always tea. Unless I'm with my son, then it's mocha.

Photographic memories are a myth. What it is the result of is having parents who expected a lot of me at school and me trying to deliver.

Honestly, though, these are hard. Invisible? Yeah, all the time. Something I'm proud of? Well, working on pride, but I think I'm a really good writer, albeit an invisible one. I'm pretty smart and God lets me see connections in ways other people don't. But how do I turn those things into flash fiction?

Writers are always invisible until they arent! We spend time invisibly building up our treasures, and then when we are discovered, we have an abundance to share with the world!

Thats a good question--what if you wrote a character who shared your talents? A recurring character might help simplify flash fiction? Its such a challenge until we find a formula that works for us! But youve been participating admirably in the flash fiction fridays--keep doing that you’ll discover your formula!

It's so interesting to me to see that almost everyone who commented said they do indeed feel invisible most of the time, and I would probably say the same. I wonder if that's a bit of a condition of our day; there are lots of distractions today. Hmm. Sometimes I find that when I try to pay more attention to real people around me, or when someone pays more attention to me, it's a bit unsettling for all of us! Maybe we're more comfortable invisible, although I'm not sure we're more happy. Anyway. Loved this story, found it relatable, and was intrigued by the stranger! As for question two, I'm real good at reading children's books out loud. And question 3 made me realize that I don't catch up with old friends often enough! Though I'd say a cup of tea and/or a plate of homemade cookies would do it for me.

Thank you for this, Hannah! Yes, I think for my part its easier to feel safe if unseen, vulnerability is scary, even to trusted friends. Distractions factor in too! Our attention is always being pulled away from whats in front of us.

Thank you so much for reading and sharing your thoughts, I am glad you found it relatable!

Aww, I love this. I liked the invisible boy's "revenge" on the townsfolk by just doing what he damn well pleased, despite all of their griping. Before the home they didn't give a care what he did, and after it, he didn't crack once he wasn't invisible any more. Kudos to you, invisible boy. And to you, Scoot! Such a pleasant tale.

Nice! I was totally expecting the usual sort of invisible boy tale, so this complete subversion of my expectations was really refreshing. 👍
