"Provide detailed, specific feedback to help writers improve their craft..."
This is what I love about your competition, Scoot! Because even if the writer submitting is not a winner, they're still a winner because of what you're providing in feedback. Thanks for giving folks another opportunity here on Substack.
I'm looking to enter, but the only thing putting me off is how long the competition runs— worried work will get the best of me. Looking forward to the challenge.
Yes, the deadlines are a little tight. But then a lot of the best work is done under pressure. 2000 words is about four or five pages, so not too bad. Best of luck to you if you do end up applying for this... 😎
Just to clarify, do the 3 competition posts (not the application story) get posted on the entrants’ own substacks, or do they get sent to the judges privately?
I accidentally subscribed. No offense, but I am not happy because I have spent a lot of time trying to find how I can unsubscribe. Please take my name off your list of subscribers. Thanks.
You can unsubscribe from a Substack user (and all their newsletters) by going to the user's page and hitting the grayed-out button that reads "Subscribed." It will gain color and change to "Subscribe." I know it's not clearly labeled but that's how it works!
If it's a single newsletter from which you want to unsubscribe, you can go to that newsletter's main page and hit the three dots in the top right corner (on the app). There's an "Unsubscribe" button in the bottom-of-screen pop-up.
This sounds absolutely fantastic. Well done for creating opportunities like this for new writers on here - they are sorely needed! I'm very surprised you only got 12 applicants last year, though. I'm sure this year there will be many more. I'm very tempted to enter myself. But we'll see. Best of luck with it, anyway... 😎
Argh this looks absolutely amazing and I’d love to enter but the calendar overlaps the most intense work travel melee of the year 😭 Any chance the schedule will fall in I dunno, fall time next year? Winter?! Literally any other block of weeks 😂
It is entirely likely! The timing was semi-arbitrary this year, GWC ‘25 could very well be in the summer! Making a note and ill be collecting feedback after this round to see how i can make it better!
Yes! I will send acknowledgements for the next batch of applications sometime next week--anyone who sent in before Friday (the "first batch") has already been noted!
Excited to follow these shenanigans!
I’ll be a spectator, but a rapt one!

Absolutely. A detailed, unbiased critique would be incredibly valuable for any writer... 😎
I'm hoping I can keep a closer eye on this one.

No I'm right there with you— just got a lot of things competing for my attention haha

Hi Roseanne, I will take you off the list. Thanks for letting me know!

I can't tell you how many times I looked and couldn't find a Subscribed button of any color. Thanks!

I might just do it, although work might be against me on this.
on the other hand, writing under a bit a pressure could be fun experience.
Will decide later this week😂
Exciting. I'm stepping out and going to participate in this one... Gulp.
