YESSSS LIVE MY CREATION LIIIVE NO ESCAPE FOR HAL BWAHAHAHAHA
*cough* I mean, bravo Scoot. Well done you. Excellent use of the prompt there. Very good.
;)
True story: once I was at a restaurant with some out-of-town family, and a cousin of mine had a birthday, and they made her stand up on the table, wear a silly hat , and THEN they sang the jingle. It was horrifying. Most birthday jingles I don't mind, and with the pandemic I haven't been out much to hear them at all, but this one.... *shudder*
Also the Pentecostal church I went to before I was Catholic had their own version of the Happy Birthday song which the whole congregation sang whenever anyone had a birthday.
"A happy birthday to you, a happy birthday to you!
May you feel Jesus near, every day of the year!
A happy birthday to you, a happy birthday to you!
And the best one you've ever had!"
So, yeah. Lots of awkwardness with birthday jingles there.
Well, with the cousin at the restaurant it was vicarious trauma but even so: it was years ago but I remember sitting there in horror and watching as this happened, and right there and then I swore to myself that I would never celebrate a birthday at this particular restaurant.
I mean, they made her STAND UP on a TABLE. WITHOUT WARNING. *shudders again*
Kid-ish? I don't remember exactly how old; we were mid-to-early teens, maybe younger. I just have a picture embedded in my mind of her awkwardly standing on the table wearing a sash made of to-go boxes and the staff singing the jingle....
Oh boy, so she was definitely old enough to be humiliated out of the sheer awkwardness. I shall never, ever tell a restaurant that it's my birthday. Ever.
I imagine Hal cowered in a corner of the living room assuming the fetal possision and just screaming. Hilariously ridiculous Scoot!
I don't care for the restaurant birthday jingles. Thankfully, my birthday being Jan. 1, I've never had to deal with this.
My favorite birthday tradition of the past was performing live music for my friends and family. My brother and I had a high school/ college band. I played drums. Daniel was the guitar player. Anyway, three of the four members had birthdays in Dec./ Jan. so, for several years we had a joint party and set up a stage outside of our bass player's house. We'd invite tons of people to hear us jam and play games outside. It always made for a good time.
Favorite birthday dessert would be my wife's grandmother's strawberry cake. Would make Paula Dean proud with all the butter in that cake!
I know! I had forgotten Walther's birthday was Chirstmas day unitl I read that! So cool!
And that's.... so cool.. so cool. Still need to read your recent post on Mary but is in my saved inbox!
And that really was so much fun! We could have used a clarinet! haha.. We did invite several band friends from time to time to jam. My favorite had to be the saxophone jams. We even collabed with a young lady who played violin once to perform "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" for a local festival. That's a TOUGH song to play.. by the way.
And one slice of cake never hurt anybody... Unless you're fasting!
I found this south african band called Goldfish from a kia soul commercial with hamsters--did a deep dive into their tunes, their song “brush your hair” has one of the most epic sax jams ive ever heard. I LOVE sax jams. Oh, also “Birds Lament” by moondog! Ill link em for you in Notes
I don't mind birthday jingles because the ones my family and friends sing is quite sweet (in my opinion)...
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Praise the Lord for His goodness and mercy this day! May He bless you and guide you on heavens highway. It's a prayer with a blessing! Happy birthday to you!
And my favourite birthday dessert is either my husband's double choc orange fudge cake, or my grandma's lemon meringue pie 🥧

I THOUGHT your expertise at crafting that jingle had to come from deeply personal trauma 😂

I cannot imagine how horrifying that would be to witness, much less experience!
Indeed. I twinge a little every time I see that place. It lives in legend. We don't go there on birthdays. Or ever, really. Ever.
Was she a little kid or an adult? Not that either would make it much better...
Kid-ish? I don't remember exactly how old; we were mid-to-early teens, maybe younger. I just have a picture embedded in my mind of her awkwardly standing on the table wearing a sash made of to-go boxes and the staff singing the jingle....
Never again, I swore to myself. Never. Ever.
Oh boy, so she was definitely old enough to be humiliated out of the sheer awkwardness. I shall never, ever tell a restaurant that it's my birthday. Ever.
I share a birthday with the Big Boss Upstairs (Jesus Christ), so I don't have the restaurant birthday jingle problem to deal with that much.
My favorite birthday dessert is anything with chocolate in it.
That birthday song reminded me of The Emperor's New Groove.
Adding Emperors New Groove to my watchlist again 😂
That ending made me laugh. I can't imagine something that silly happening in someone's home. It was great.

Jan 1 is a holy day of obligation dedicated to Mary, Mother of God 😉 fun fact for you.
Your birthday jams sound amazing, what a great thing to do for friends and family--turn a birthday into a season of giving.
Ive had a sweet tooth all day today and you mightve pushed me over the edge to indulge myself...
