It's hard to say about my favorite depiction of magic in fiction as there's so many good ones (Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain, for example, or Alexander's other work The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen, and then of course there's Narnia and LOTR and and and, but I do like Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time and the way he worldbuilds and sets it up. There's a scene in particular that's just super awesome, The Gathering Storm, chapter 41, that for me rivals Gandalf's fight with the Balrog and Eowyn's with the Witch-King.
But anyway.
Also, I like the Deluminator, or Put-Outer in Harry Potter because it's simple, straightforward, and it does what it says. It puts out lights. And then if you want turns them on again. Brilliant, that.
Too much fun and interesting magic in fiction is a good problem to have! TBH I like the put-outer too. Feels like one of the more practical magical inventions for sure!
For some reason, It's Magic by Pilot (1974) came to mind when I read this. One of the British bands that was contracted to play in the clubs on U.S. bases came through our small base in Turkey and played this song all the time.
I discovered that song in a christmas-season commercial as a child, and it was before the internet was any good so I just had to wait until that commercial aired again to try and figure out what song it was! Good memories!

I'm one of those who loves to write about magic and read about magic but doesn't believe in it. But I find it all highly entertaining.
I dont believe in magic either but it is fun to think about!
I'm glad I found you; these give me inspiration to write more and try things out.
I hope you do!!
